HEMATOMA

HEMATOMA

Hematoma is blood that has leaked from a ruptured vessel into surrounding tissue and forms a clot.

This condition frequently happens to dogs with drop ears: the cause is usually from some sort of blow

to the ear.

                                                                  (EAR FLAP HEMATOMA)

Dogs that have ear infections and shake there heads violently may accidently bump their ears.

Vessels are ruptured and blood then collects under the skin. The blood then forms a clot in the ear
 flap.

This particular type of hematoma requires surgery.  The surgery removes the clot and then closes the empty space to prevent the build up of fluid.
